Long-term storage of industrial vehicle lithium-ion batteries need to be combined with environmental control, power management and regular maintenance and other comprehensive measures, Frey lithium batteries for you to summarize the specific methods are as follows:
I. Storage environment control
Temperature Requirements
Ideal storage temperature is 0-25℃ (best 15-25℃), avoid high temperature (>45℃) or low temperature (<0℃) environment. High temperature may cause electrolyte decomposition or bulging, while low temperature may cause irreversible capacity loss.
The storage place should be protected from light, ventilated and away from heat sources (e.g. direct sunlight, equipment heat dissipation area).
Humidity and Dust Protection
Maintain the ambient humidity at 45%-75% to avoid humidity causing corrosion of the electrodes.
Use sealed containers to store batteries and add moisture absorbers (e.g. silica gel packs).
The storage area should be protected from dust and dirt to avoid short circuit caused by metal contact or impurities.
II. Power Management
Initial Power Adjustment
Adjust the battery level to 30%-80% (50%-60% recommended) before storage to avoid full charge or loss of charge. Full charge will accelerate the passivation of electrodes, and loss of charge may lead to over-discharge damage.
Regular Charge and Discharge Maintenance
Every 3 months Replenish the battery to the initial storage range to prevent self-discharge leading to low voltage.
It is recommended to perform a full charge/discharge cycle (discharge to 30% and recharge to 50%) every 6 months to activate the battery activity.
III. Safety Protection and Inspection
Physical Protection
Battery should be stored separately, electrode part wrapped with insulating tape, or use explosion-proof protective bag/iron box to isolate the risk.
Handle gently and avoid extrusion, collision or puncture.
Regular Inspection
Check the appearance of the battery every month and observe if there is any bulging, leakage or corrosion.
Use a multimeter to monitor the voltage, if the voltage is lower than 3.0V/unit need to charge immediately.
IV. Restoration of use after long-term storage
Return to temperature
Batteries stored at low temperature should be left at room temperature (20-25℃) for 24 hours before charging.
Charging and Testing
Use the original charger for the first time charging, charge to 50% and let it stand for 2 hours, then fill it up to calibrate the power level.
Perform a capacity test before use to verify that there is no significant drop in performance.
V. Special Scenario Handling
Ultra-long term storage (>1 year): It is recommended to disassemble the battery pack and encapsulate individual cells separately to minimize self-discharge effects.
High humidity environment: Use vacuum sealed bag for storage with desiccant.
The above methods can effectively reduce the problems of capacity degradation and internal resistance increase, and prolong the service life of the battery. If any abnormality is found (e.g. odor, heat), it is necessary to stop using it immediately and contact a professional to deal with it.
